Crafted from Cashmere

The fabric is washed in local
spring water from the surrounding
countryside and brushed with teasels
– dried flowers that are drawn along
the surface of the cashmere to ‘raise’
the cloth, creating a natural lustre
and an ultra-soft finish.

A careful dyeing process ensures
only the most vivid colours in the
yarns of the Burberry Check. The
scarf is then finished with fringing,
using a specialised machine that
stretches and twists each thread
together.

The Burberry Check scarf was born from innovation, when a buyer in the Burberry Paris store thought to remove the check lining of a trench and use it to create new accessories.

Johnstons of Elgin is a family-run business and is the only mill left in Scotland that takes a raw fibre and carries it through every stage of its transformation to the final product.
